Bitwise Director and Head of Research for Europe André Dragosch said Bitcoin often moves ahead of changes in global liquidity, describing the cryptocurrency as a “canary in the liquidity coal mine.” In a discussion with Bitcoin Magazine host Spencer Nichols, Dragosch also presented a global money supply model that places Bitcoin’s current fair value at $197,000.

The conversation examined tightening financial conditions across markets, rising French bond yields and the potential impact of shifts in Federal Reserve policy. Dragosch and Nichols also discussed the implications of the dollar, risks surrounding an artificial intelligence bubble and possible contagion in the AI credit complex.

Recession risk was another focus, including China’s slowdown and the possibility that Bitcoin could eventually decouple from stocks. The discussion also considered whether capital moving out of precious metals could help Bitcoin catch up with the level implied by global money supply.

Additional topics included the debt burden facing the Federal Reserve, the idea of Bitcoin within a potential Bretton Woods III framework and its role as a reserve-currency call option. The program also addressed Bitcoin-backed credit and Strategy’s position as a bank.
