An unidentified entity in the European Union may have lost more than $106 million from accounts at multiple cryptocurrency exchanges on Sunday, according to blockchain investigator ZachXBT. The affected entity and exchanges have not been publicly identified, and the suspected attacker remains unknown.
In a Monday post, ZachXBT said funds believed to be stolen were withdrawn in USDC and USDT, then moved across several cryptocurrencies and blockchains. The suspected attacker exchanged USDC for Ether, used instant exchange services including WellWallet and Kyrrex, and converted funds into Monero through the swap service Wagyu. ZachXBT identified 11 wallet addresses associated with the funds and said their movement did not point to a connection with North Korea’s Lazarus Group.
Separately, a wallet associated with King, an automated arbitrage bot on Solana, may have lost about $786,000 on Monday, according to the pseudonymous monitoring account Onchain Lens. The account said the funds passed through several Solana wallets before moving to Ethereum through Mayan, a cross-chain service.
Onchain Lens said the rapid transfers and movement between blockchains suggested an effort to obscure the funds’ origin and a possible wallet compromise. King’s operator has not confirmed that the wallet was compromised.
The suspected thefts follow the $6.3 billion Binance hack on Oct. 29, which the FBI attributed to North Korean hackers known as TraderTraitor, a group linked to Lazarus. The Binance incident was described as the largest cryptocurrency theft on record.
