US federal debt has increased from $1 trillion in 1981 to more than $40 trillion, a 40-fold rise over 45 years, according to a Bitcoin Magazine interview with Andrew Hohns, founder and CEO of Battery Finance. Hohns says he does not expect tax increases or spending cuts to solve the problem.

Instead, Hohns argues that a strategic Bitcoin reserve could help defease the national debt. He also makes the case for the US Treasury to pilot BitBonds, while discussing why the proposed bonds have not yet reached the market.

The interview also covers bond-market volatility, higher borrowing costs and digital credit. Hohns discusses Battery Finance’s Bitcoin-backed real estate loans, the $2 trillion real estate refinancing wall, how the company’s loans avoid margin calls, and which property types may face pressure.

The programme’s publisher notes that the views expressed are those of its participants and are for informational and educational purposes, not financial, legal, tax or accounting advice.
